💬 Here’s what Claudia & Kezia had to say about their journey:
What struggles have you had to overcome as a business owner?
Balancing the business with work, school, and motherhood has been one of our biggest challenges. I work full-time, my sister, Kezia, is still in school, and we’re both moms, so we manage Goodbake in between—often baking our crunchy brownies late at night after work, school, and taking care of our kids. On top of that, we participate in weekend local markets, which takes extra time and energy. In the future, we hope to have our own facility, hire employees, and get our products into more stores and cafes. That way, we can focus on growing the business while reducing the number of markets we attend. Expanding into retail would allow us to reach more customers while making production more efficient.
Figuring out the business side—making key decisions, handling the rising costs of ingredients, and keeping up with social media—has also been a learning curve. Juggling content creation while managing everything else isn’t always easy.
That said, our strengths are our teamwork, trust, and commitment. Kezia and I share the same vision but bring different skills to the table, which helps us stay motivated and support each other where needed. That balance has been key to overcoming our challenges.
What’s the best story you have about your business?
One of the most rewarding parts of this journey is meeting customers at markets. It’s always exciting when someone recognizes us from a previous event or when regulars stop by to tell us how much they love our crunchy brownies. Getting direct feedback from people who truly enjoy what we do makes all the hard work worth it.
What’s your most popular service or product?
We offer four flavors: Sea Salt, Dark Chocolate, Strawberry, and Roasted Pumpkin Seeds. Sea Salt and Dark Chocolate are the top favorites, but kids especially love the Dark Chocolate and Strawberry flavors. We use real strawberries, which makes a big difference in taste and quality.
We're also moms, and our kids are the biggest fans of our crunchy brownies. The best part? We never feel guilty giving them our treats because we use safe, simple ingredients. Finding delicious gluten-free snacks can be tough, so we take pride in making something both safe and enjoyable for everyone.
We also offer two sizes: our regular pouch and a 20-mini bag. The mini bag has become a hit, especially for on-the-go snacking.
Where is the best place people can find you?
Right now, you can order from our website or find us at local weekend markets. Our products are also available in-store at The Apple Lady in Calgary SW and All the Candy Store in Ontario. We’re hoping to be in stores this year, so hopefully, more locations will be coming soon!
